Inspired by the spirit of volunteerism, dedicated members of Kiwanis Club of Kalibo in collaboration with Kiwanis Club of Golden Salakot Aklan and Kiwanis Club of Kalibo Legend have embarked on volunteer opportunities in the eastern side of Aklan.

Not only Kiwanis members on the ground but also church workers and teachers with a variety of talents and interests offer a few hours of their time to serve the children in Batan, Aklan.
On October 4, 2020, the volunteers kicked off the Kiwanis year with the distribution of hygiene kits, face masks and face shields to some 100 children, teachers and mothers in the compound of Parish of Immaculate Conception Church.
The children were also appreciative of the special treat courtesy of Kiwanis club volunteers after they received their brand new slippers in exchange for their rugged and torn slippers.
According to Kiwanis Club of Kalibo president Jerome Padios who was present during the Kiwanis service, the volunteers also instituted a feeding program to children and nursing mothers, most of them from the coastal villages, to address malnutrition.
They also turned over boxes of manna rice packs from Feed My Starving Children and Risen Savior Missions to help bridge the nutritional gap of children in a local community.
Since the pandemic, teachers of Batan Elementary School are left with no choice but have to adjust to distance learning. Knowing this gap, the Kiwanis clubs donated cash money for 10 reams for module reproduction to ensure the learners of Batan Elementary School are not left out for the upcoming school year.
The club endeavors to connect with the children of a 4th-class municipality was also made possible with the help of Fr. Josue Ruiz Escalona, Jr. of the Parish of Immaculate Conception Church.
“Natuloy itong proyekto dahil nakikita ko habang nagmimisa ako sa mga eskuwelahan, may mga kailangan ang ating bata,” he said.
Escalona also acknowledged the volunteers for their involvement in the unique and meaningful opportunities to serve the children of Batan.
Kiwanis Club of Golden Salakot Aklan president Doneza Cezar said the Kiwanians proceeded after the Batan community service to Altavas Elementary School in the adjacent town of Altavas, Aklan to distribute boxes of coupon bond for the modular learning of public school teachers and learners.
